Why the Golden State Warriors Will Break the Ultimate Record

This is the image that stayed in my mind after the Golden State Warriors all out win in San Antonio Sunday night. These two undisputed leaders of the NBA's best team, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are more than teammates. They are soulmates on a quest to prove they are indeed the best team in NBA history.  But they will be the first to tell you they are not alone, and that is the second reason they will win  their final game Wednesday night and rewrite history for the ages. The "Dubs" as Bay Area Fans lovingly describe their team can no longer be looked as a "lucky" underdog. Maybe critics who called last year's Championship run and title had a point that they coasted "under the radar." No such luck this year. Every single one of the past 81 games have been contested. Their opponents trying their best to dethrone the champs. Nine teams were successful, but never twice in a row. The records have been falling like raindrops in this El Nino year. However, the only record Green and Curry care about right now is 73-9. Looking back, even they would admit they could have made it easier on themselves by winning a couple of questionable games, but that wouldn't be part of their charm. A sort of Bay Area tradition of "torture" among our victors. You won't hear any complaints from the fans. This team of 15 has more than captured our heart. They've shown us what it means to play with heart. All for one and one for all. Sure, there are three all-stars on the roster, but Curry, Green and Klay Thompson will be the first to tell you they couldn't have done it alone. At every opportunity, every player takes it upon himself to credit his teammates for his success, and that is the real mark of a champion. When Curry and Green hugged each other at mid court Wednesday, they were sharing a moment for the ages. They both have been vocal about wanting to not just reach but break the record set by the Chicago Bulls in 1996. There have been times when Coach Steve Kerr has absolutely listened more to his players than last, when he made sure to rest every starter.  Not this year. They all wanted to play. Sure veterans like Andre Iguodala, Leandro Barbosa, Shaun Livingston and even Andrew Bogut have taken well deserved nights off, but the young guns like Green, Curry, Thompson, Harrison Barnes,  and the rest of the supporting cast are relentless. They want to play and why not? They are having a blast out there. You just need to look at Marreese "Mo Buckets" Speights to know it's a party on the hard top when the Warriors take the court. Nobody is forgetting the ultimate goal this season is to repeat as World Champions and cement their place in history once again. That will come but for now, it's showtime at Oracle and the team that plays together as one will outshine the former Michael Jordan led Champs by proving they are truly the best. This will be the team we will speak of when recounting the glory days of basketball in the Bay Area. So make a point to tune in because this show will be more than worth it. History will be made in Oakland.
